A founder and the chief executive officer of BluePearl Veterinary Partners, Darryl Shaw, MBA, CPA, is a BluePearl Veterinary Partners board member. He has served as CEO since the organization’s inception.

He has been at the helm of business operations since 1996 when he and his brother, Neil, opened their first veterinary hospital with three employees in Tampa. From those humble beginnings during which everything was, literally, within an arm’s reach to the sophisticated and comprehensive group of multi-disciplinary specialty and emergency hospitals that is BluePearl Veterinary Partners, the emphasis has been on providing excellent quality of care and service for referring veterinarians and pet owners, plus practical education for veterinary students, interns and residents. In 2010, Darryl and Neil were named Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in Florida.

Darryl earned a BS in international commerce from Brown University and an MBA in finance and marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management from Northwestern University. Prior to attending business school, he worked as a certified public accountant at Deloitte & Touche, one of the four largest international accounting firms.

At home, Darryl’s family includes two energetic pups: a yellow lab and a Dalmatian.

Neil Shaw - DVM, DACVIM

Management

Dr. Neil Shaw is a founder of BluePearl Veterinary Partners and currently serves on its board. Growing up with a father who was a veterinarian, Neil was always passionate about helping animals, which led to a 10-year education commitment at the University of Florida where he completed an undergraduate degree, a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine, a veterinary internship and a residency in small animal internal medicine. The day after he completed his residency program in 1996, Neil and his brother, Darryl, opened the doors of their new pet hospital in Tampa.

Over time, the one-veterinarian practice grew into a the group of sophisticated, multi-disciplinary, 24-hour emergency and specialty pet hospitals now named BluePearl. Well recognized for their success, in 2010 Neil and Darryl were named Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in Florida. Neil has received a number of other accolades including People magazine’s “Hero in Hard Times,” Community Service Award by The Veterinary Medical Association of New York City, Distinguished Service Award by University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, Gold Star Service Award by Florida Veterinary Medical Association and Community Service Award by Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society. Neil spends his off-duty hours volunteering and spending time with his family, which includes four dogs, fish and leopard geckos.

Andy Anderson - DVM, DACVS

Management

Dr. Andy Anderson is a BluePearl Veterinary Partners board member. He was co-founder and managing director of South Texas Veterinary Specialists and North Houston Veterinary Specialists, which are now a part of the BluePearl family of hospitals.

Dr. Anderson is a native Texan who earned two bachelor degrees from Texas A&M University – one in animal science and the other in biomedical science. Before embarking on his veterinary career, he took an ivy-covered detour to earn his MBA at Harvard and went on to work in the investment banking industry. His love of animals and regard for the human-animal bond never wavered though, and eventually, he returned to A&M for his doctor of veterinary medicine degree. After completing a residency at the University of Missouri and becoming a board-certified veterinary surgeon, Dr. Anderson co-founded South Texas Veterinary Specialists in 2000 and North Houston Veterinary Specialists in 2010. He also serves on the executive committee of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and is the organization’s treasurer.

When Dr. Anderson isn’t working on meeting the growing demand for specialty services in Texas, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Kim, their son, Chase, and their dog, Kate. He can often be found snow skiing, fly fishing or sailing with his family.
