BluePearl Veterinary Partners prides itself in being owned and operated by veterinarians and veterinary industry professionals who work at BluePearl. BluePearl’s success and philosophy have been shaped by the hands-on experiences of these veterinary specialists and industry professionals who have built veterinary practices from the ground up.
Darryl Shaw - MBA, CPA
Founder and chief executive officer of BluePearl Veterinary Partners, Darryl Shaw, MBA, CPA, is a BluePearl Veterinary Partners board member. He has served as the CEO since the organization’s inception.
He has been at the helm of business operations since he and his brother, Neil, opened their first veterinary hospital with three employees in Tampa in 1996. From those humble beginnings during which everything was, literally, within an arm’s reach to the sophisticated and comprehensive group of multi-disciplinary specialty and emergency hospitals that is BluePearl Veterinary Partners, the emphasis has been on providing excellent quality of care and service for referring veterinarians and pet owners, plus practical education for veterinary students, interns and residents. In 2010, Darryl and Neil were named Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in Florida.
Darryl earned a BS in international commerce from Brown University and an MBA in finance and marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management from Northwestern University. Prior to attending business school, he worked as a certified public accountant at Deloitte & Touche, one of the four largest international accounting firms.
Off the clock, Darryl enjoys time with his family, which includes two energetic pups: a yellow lab and a Dalmatian.
Neil Shaw - DVM, DACVIM
Dr. Neil Shaw is a founder of BluePearl Veterinary Partners and currently serves on its board.
Growing up with a father who was a veterinarian, Neil developed a passion for helping animals at an early age, which led to a 10-year education commitment at the University of Florida where he completed an undergraduate degree, a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine, a veterinary internship and a residency in small animal internal medicine. In 1996, the day after he completed his residency program, Neil joined his brother, Darryl, in Tampa to open the doors of their new pet hospital.
Over time, the one-veterinarian hospital grew to become a group of sophisticated, multi-disciplinary, 24-hour emergency and specialty pet hospitals now named BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Neil has worked tirelessly to build an organization that provides exceptional quality of care and service to referring veterinarians and gives back to veterinary medicine by being a resource for hands-on veterinary education.
Well recognized for his contributions, in 2010, Neil and Darryl were named Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in Florida. Neil has also received a number of other accolades, including People magazine’s “Hero in Hard Times,” Community Service Award by The Veterinary Medical Association of New York City, Distinguished Service Award by University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, Gold Star Service Award by Florida Veterinary Medical Association and Community Service Award by Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society. Neil spends his off-duty hours volunteering and spending time with his family, which includes four dogs, fish and leopard geckos.
Jeff Dennis - DVM, DACVIM
Dr. Jeff Dennis is a founder and board member of BluePearl Veterinary Partners.
