Our Goals for You
Our objective is to develop specialists in Avian Medicine, Cardiology, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine and Surgery by advancing critical thought processes and the use of the problem-based approach to patient care, development of clinical skills and expertise in these disciplines. Residents will develop a critical understanding of current veterinary literature and proficiency in library research skills. Most of the training time with adjunctive services can be met at BluePearl-Florida.
Florida
Avian Medicine Residency
Location: Tampa, Florida

Description: This standard track residency is a three-year position meeting for a resident in ABVP (Avian) Medicine. The core rotations will be directly supported by Dr. Teresa Lightfoot, ABVP (Avian), along with Diplomates by ACVECC, ACVIM, ACVS, ACVO, ACVR and ACVIM (Oncology). Prerequisites include completion of a Small Animal Rotating Medicine and Surgery Internship and being licensed to practice in Florida before beginning the program. This program will be offered through the Match Program and will be offered again beginning in July, 2011.
Emergency and Critical Care Residency

Description: This residency is a three-year standard track position for a resident in ACVECC. Diplomates of ACVECC, ACVIM, and ACVS will directly support the core rotations. Prerequisites include completion of a Small Animal Rotating Medicine and Surgery Internship and license to practice in Florida before beginning of the program in July of this year. This position will be offered through the Match Program with final acceptance by the ACVECC.
Surgery Residency

Description: This residency is a three-year standard track position designed to meet all of the requirements of the ACVS. Prerequisites include completion of a Small Animal Rotating Medicine and Surgery Internship, Surgery Internship or equivalent clinic experience, as well as being licensed to practice in Florida before beginning the program. This position will be offered through the Match Program with final acceptance by the ACVS and is not offered every year.
Cardiology Residency

Description: This residency is a three-year standard track position designed to meet all of the requirements of the ACVIM (Cardiology). Prerequisites include completion of a Small Animal Rotating Medicine and Surgery Internship, Cardiology Internship or equivalent clinic experience, as well as being licensed to practice in Florida before beginning the program. This position is presently filled and will not be offered until July 15, 2011.
Michigan
Internal Medicine Residency

Details: Michigan Veterinary Specialists, a BluePearl Partners Hospital, seeks qualified candidates for an ACVIM approved residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency position to start as soon as accepted. The 3 year residency is supported by specialists in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Surgery, and Ophthalmology as well as residents in Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology and Surgery. Didactic and clinical training of interns will be required. The resident will work with a large and diverse case load at our well equipped and staffed Southfield and Auburn Hills hospitals in Southeastern Michigan. We have 3 abdominal and 1 cardiac ultrasound units, CT, MRI, linear accelerator, digital radiography, endoscopy equipment and an Antech regional laboratory. Rotations between both hospitals and rotations in the emergency service will be required.
This program requires completion of an Internship in small animal medicine and surgery, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a high level of self-motivation and independence, and approval for licensure in the State of Michigan.

Ophthalmology Residency

Details: Michigan Veterinary Specialists (MVS) seeks qualified candidates for an ACVO approved residency in veterinary ophthalmology starting July 1, 2012. MVS (a BluePearl Veterinary Partner Hospital) is a large, multi-specialty and 24-hour emergency hospital located in southeastern Michigan.
The goal of this program is to provide the resident with comprehensive clinical training in the medical and surgical management of ophthalmology cases and to develop a broad knowledge base in the basic sciences to prepare the resident for the ophthalmology board examination. This is an established 3-year program with an additional 2-year commitment post-completion to a BluePearl Veterinary Hospital. The ophthalmology service at MVS supports a busy and varied caseload of small animal patients in hospitals in southeast Michigan. The residency is supported by specialists in Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Surgery, and as well as residents in Internal Medicine, and Surgery.
Additional training and exposure to equine and exotic animal ophthalmology is achieved through close relationships with several equine practitioners in the region and the Detroit Zoologic Society. Didactic and clinical training of interns and rotations in the emergency service are required as part of residency program.
