Dr. Neil Shaw is a founder and chief medical officer of BluePearl Veterinary Partners LLC and currently serves on its board.
Growing up with a father who was a veterinarian, Neil developed a passion for helping animals at an early age, which led to a 10-year education commitment at the University of Florida where he completed an undergraduate degree, a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine, a veterinary internship and a residency in small animal internal medicine. In 1996, the day after he completed his residency program, Neil joined his brother, Darryl, in Tampa to open the doors of their new pet hospital.
Over time, the one-veterinarian hospital grew to become a group of sophisticated, multi-disciplinary, 24-hour emergency and specialty pet hospitals now named BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Neil has worked tirelessly to build an organization that provides exceptional quality of care and service to referring veterinarians and gives back to veterinary medicine by being a resource for hands-on veterinary education.
Well recognized for his contributions, in 2010, Neil and Darryl were named Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in Florida. Neil has also received a number of other accolades, including People magazine’s “Hero in Hard Times,” Community Service Award by The Veterinary Medical Association of New York City, Distinguished Service Award by University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, Gold Star Service Award by Florida Veterinary Medical Association and Community Service Award by Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society. Neil spends his off-duty hours volunteering in the community, bicycling, and spending time with his family, which includes four dogs, fish and leopard geckos.
