They bring to their positions a diverse array of experiences and are all committed to advancing BluePearl’s mission of enriching lives through remarkable care for pets.
Darryl Shaw is a founder and the Chief Executive Officer for BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Darryl has been at the helm of business operations since 1996 when he and his brother, Neil, opened their first veterinary hospital with three employees in Tampa.
Today, BluePearl Veterinary Partners is the fastest-growing network of specialty and emergency hospitals in North America and is known for its excellence in patient care and service to both pet owners and referring veterinarians. In 2010, Darryl and Neil were named Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in Florida..
Darryl earned an undergraduate degree in international commerce from Brown University and an MBA in finance and marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management from Northwestern University.
At home, Darryl’s family includes two energetic pups: a yellow lab and a Dalmatian.
Dr. Jennifer Welser is Chief Medical Officer for BluePearl Veterinary Partners. A board-certified ophthalmologist, Jen has been with BluePearl since the opening of the Manhattan hospital and served as medical director of the three New York City specialty hospitals when they opened in 2006.
Jen is a Michigan native with a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Michigan State University. She is also a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. She completed an internship at Auburn University and a residency in ophthalmology at Animal Eye Associates that involved a comparative medicine component at the University of Illinois. She also has an undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont.
Before joining BluePearl, Jen first practiced as an ophthalmologist at MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. She then started her own practice in California, treating patients in both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Clint Werts is the Chief Financial Officer for BluePearl Veterinary Partners. In this role, Clint oversees finance, accounting, analytics and purchasing for the company. Clint comes to BluePearl from Banfield Pet Hospital, where he worked for more than 10 years. He most recently served as Senior Director of Financial Planning and Analysis and Reporting for the Portland-based company.
Clint is a graduate of Boise State University, where he received a bachelor’s of business administration in accounting and finance.
When he’s not working, Clint enjoys supporting his alma mater’s football and basketball teams. He’s an avid basketball player and also enjoys spending time with his wife and supporting their three children’s various activities.
Joo Sangrene is Chief Marketing Officer for BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Joo joined BluePearl in 2015 and leads the organization’s marketing strategy, digital marketing, veterinary relations, communications, customer experience and creative services. Prior to joining BluePearl, she held leadership roles at various companies, including Sleep Number and Caesar’s Entertainment, where she served as Director of Customer Analytics and Director of Marketing, respectively.
Joo earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Minnesota and a MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
She lives in Tampa with her husband, two children and a long-haired cat named Grumpies.
Jeff Fox is Chief Information Officer for BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Jeff joined BluePearl in 1999 and is responsible for BluePearl’s technology strategy and managing overall IT operations. Prior to joining BluePearl, he was founder and president of Fox & Associates, Inc., a commercial real estate management firm. In 1996, his company was responsible for acquiring and negotiating the initial lease for Florida Veterinary Specialists, which was eventually renamed, BluePearl Veterinary Partners.
Jeff earned a bachelor’s of science degree in management from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
When Jeff isn’t working on the growing technology demands for BluePearl, he enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons and his two dogs, Striker and Keeper. He is a soccer enthusiast who has played, coached and now cheers for his son’s competitive and high school teams.
Yolanda Jameson is General Counsel for BluePearl Veterinary Partners and oversees all legal matters. She comes to BluePearl from Carlton Fields Jorden Burt, where she has served as an associate attorney since 2010.
Yolanda has a master’s degree in tax law from the University of Florida, where she also earned her undergraduate degree in public relations. Yolanda received her law degree from Stetson University College of Law.
Yolanda is also very active in the Tampa Bay community, where BluePearl is based. She is a member of the Ronald McDonald House’s Red Shoe Council, serves on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of the Suncoast and is the co-director of the State Tax Division of the Florida Bar Tax Section.
A Florida native, Yolanda enjoys spending time in the sunshine with her husband and two children, as well as their three dogs.
Angela Calderone is the Vice President of People & Organization (P&O) for BluePearl. In this role, she is responsible for the leadership, vision and strategic planning in this area, including associate relations, recruiting, compensation, benefits and talent and learning.
Angela is a Wisconsin native who received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She previously held a regional human resources position for MarineMax, where she gained experience in transitioning teams during the merger and acquisition process. This knowledge has proven to be invaluable in her role here at BluePearl. Angela said her current position is her dream job and that she’s constantly inspired by her amazing colleagues, who do so much for pets and families.
Angela enjoys spending time with her husband and their two terrific children. She loves running, going to the beach and traveling.
Rita graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998, after which she was part of the second rotating small animal internship class at Florida Veterinary Specialists (FVS), now known as BluePearl in Tampa. She then completed a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Florida with a successive fellowship in emergency and critical care at Blue Pearl in Tampa. Rita joined the faculty of the North Carolina State University (NSCU) College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006 and was Director of Emergency Services for six years. Over the past 10 years, she pursued her academic interests in the fields of traumatic and hemostatic disorders. She has published more than 20 manuscripts, book chapters and, recently, best practice guidelines for prehospital care of dogs and cats. Rita enjoys first responder training, which she continues to pursue. Through these experiences she developed a passion for the advancement of small animal specialty medicine. In her new role with BluePearl, she plans to continue the tradition of helping clinicians achieve the highest levels of professional and personal accomplishment.
Rita currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband, Chris Mariani, and their two children (Sofia and Nate). They share their home with a mixed breed dog (Dori) and a former blood donor cat (Curacao), who believes she is a dog. Their family enjoys time at the beach, pool, hiking...anything outdoors and anything involving UF football. Go Gators!
