William Baker, DVM
Senior Clinician, Emergency Medicine
On The Job
Dr. William Baker grew up in a small town south of Nashville, TN where his father is a tobacco and cattle farmer and his mother is a pharmacist. He always jokes that if you mix a pharmacist with a farmer, you get a veterinarian. He couldn’t decide if he wanted to be a veterinarian or a human physician, but it was growing up working with animals that convinced him. Although he enjoys trips home to the family farm to escape the hustle/bustle of the city, he also likes the fast pace of emergency medicine, teaching people and treating animals. Some of his clinical interests include gastroenteritis in dogs, toxicities, and feline lower urinary tract disease, especially obstructed cats who can’t urinate.
Internship, Small Animal Medicine & Surgery, BluePearl Veterinary Partners, Louisville KY
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Bachelor of Science, University of Tennessee, Martin
Dr. Baker’s favorite pastimes include reading, biking, running, SEC football (University of Tennessee), college basketball, music, attending festivals, going to the public library on days off, remodeling his home and exploring the great outdoors. His wife is also a veterinarian, a board-certified clinical pathologist, and they share their home with Hans, a male Chihuahua who is very spunky, full of energy and loves squeaky toys; Minnie, a female long-haired Chihuahua who is pretty, sleepy and loves to eat; and Roo, a sweet old shepherd/sheltie mix who is still quite spry for her age.
