TAMPA, Fla.—September 15, 2016 – BluePearl Veterinary Partners, a national provider of specialty and emergency veterinary care, and Penn Foster, a leading provider of skills training and education solutions for corporations, today announced the launch of a program that gives BluePearl associates an affordable pathway to becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT).
BluePearl will allow eligible associates to enroll in the Penn Foster Associate Degree program to reach their career goal of becoming a CVT. BluePearl is offering up to 90 percent tuition assistance, demonstrating the company’s commitment to providing career enhancements for its associates and increasing the number of CVTs in the profession.
“Veterinary technicians are the backbone of our practices—and our industry couldn’t exist without them,” said Jennifer Welser, DVM, DACVO, BluePearl’s Chief Medical Officer. “This partnership will open doors for many of our associates to continue their education and career development by becoming licensed technicians.”
Penn Foster’s online program is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and is tailored for working adults. It consists of four semesters, designed to give students the skills they will use in the field as veterinary technicians. The program also includes two hands-on externships for students to enhance the skills learned in their academic classes. After finishing the program, associates will be eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE).
“Penn Foster is very excited to be working with such a high-caliber organization to help them meet their employment demands,” said John Shrader, GM and Executive Vice President, Penn Foster. “By partnering with Penn Foster, BluePearl is providing employees with a feasible way of advancing their education and gaining relevant skills while being able to continue working full time in their chosen field. It’s a wonderful example of how a business built on a specific vertical expertise can be effectively complemented by an online educational component.”
Veterinary technicians play an essential role at BluePearl Veterinary Partners hospitals, where they assist with surgery and other medical procedures, administer medications and help pet owners understand the doctor’s recommendations. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the veterinary technician profession is expected to increase by 19 percent between 2014 and 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations.
