Dog dragged behind car for half mile to be discharged from BluePearl today

Harvey 2SOUTHFIELD, Mich.  – A dog that jumped out of a window and was dragged by a vehicle in Michigan for half of a mile last week was treated at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Southfield and is scheduled to be discharged Monday to a foster home.

The 3-year-old male terrier mix, named Harvey, was riding in a vehicle near Grosse Ile, Michigan on April 19 when he jumped from a car window, according to Hearts United for Animals. The vehicle was traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour and the dog’s leash became stuck in the window.

Harvey was turned over to the Grosse Ile Police Department following the incident.

The Grosse Ile Animal Shelter then gave Harvey to Hearts United for Animals, a 501(c)(3) non-profit national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization dedicated to the relief of suffering.

Hearts United for Animals took Harvey to BluePearl Veterinary Partners where he was placed in the intensive care unit and treated by Dr. Ashley Davis, a board-certified specialist in veterinary emergency and critical care.

“I expect Harvey to continue to do well,” said Davis. “Given the circumstances, he’s a very lucky dog, as the outcome could have been much worse.”

Harvey suffered road rash to approximately 20 percent of his body. Doctors from BluePearl cleaned the wounds, performed daily bandage changes and provided pain management.Harvey 1
