TAMPA, Fla. – What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to bring your four-legged friend to BluePearl Veterinary Partners hospital in Tampa for a day of costumes, games and treats – all to benefit a great cause.
“Paws Around the Earth” will not only feature food trucks and fun activities for people and their pets, it also will recognize the dogs and cats who donate blood to BluePearl’s blood bank. In addition, the event will raise money for Frankie’s Friends, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures and saving pets with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at BluePearl’s Tampa hospital, 3000 Busch Lake Blvd. It’s free to attend and will feature these activities for people and pets:
- A peanut butter licking contest at 10:30 a.m.
- Musical dog beds at 11:15 a.m.
- Pooper scooper races at 11:45 a.m.
- Dogs bobbing for toys at 12 noon
- Costume contest – bring your pets dressed in their best Earth Day-themed costume
In addition, Mr. C’s Grilled Cheese and Disco Donuts food trucks will be there, as will a bloodmobile for humans who want to show solidarity for the dogs and cats who donate blood to BluePearl’s blood bank. Those canine and feline donors will be honored for their contributions to the program, which was created about nine years ago.
The blood collected from donor pets goes to help pets treated at BluePearl as well as other veterinary practices and emergency hospitals throughout Florida and beyond.
Representatives from BluePearl’s blood bank will be on hand to answer questions for those interested in enrolling their pet in the program.
“As veterinary medicine continues to become more advanced, the need for blood just keeps growing,” said Dr. DeeAnn Dugger, a senior BluePearl clinician and director of the blood bank program. “We’re always hoping to find suitable donors.”
