NEW YORK –  Doctors from BluePearl Veterinary Partners hospital in Queens are working to help a 5-year-old terrier who was being walked by his owner when they were both struck by a tow truck.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of 80th Street and Myrtle Ave. The owner was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, while a good Samaritan delivered the dog, named Lucas, to BluePearl in Queens.

Lucas is in stable condition but will need surgery to fix a broken jaw and his ear because the skin was torn away from the underlying tissue, according to Paul Miranda, the practice manager at BluePearl.

“We’re grateful that the good Samaritan acted quickly to seek medical care for Lucas,” said Miranda. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all members of the family and we hope that everyone makes a quick and complete recovery.”

Because of the circumstances of the case, Frankie’s Friends pet foundation is stepping in to raise money for Lucas’ care, which is estimated to cost about $10,000. Those interested in contributingLucas2 are encouraged to click here.
