John Fiddler, DVM
Senior Clinician, Emergency Medicine
On The Job
After graduating with a degree in microbiology, Dr. John Fiddler determined that staring into a microscope all day wasn’t for him. Involved with wildlife rehabilitation at the time, he decided to pursue veterinary medicine instead. In the five years leading to veterinary school, he worked as a veterinary technician, becoming certified in the process. In veterinary school, he worked at a busy 24-hour specialty and emergency hospital, fell in love with emergency medicine, and was even featured in several episodes of the Animal Planet television show “Emergency Vets.”
Dr. Fiddler describes himself as an adrenaline junkie and says that a night in the emergency room provides that. From surgical emergencies to torn toenails and everything in between, Dr. Fiddler likes that emergency medicine never gets dull. He loves the challenge involved with solving the mystery of the vomiting and diarrhea patient so often seen in the emergency room.
Internship, Small Animal Medicine & Surgery, Alameda East Veterinary Hospital, Denver CO
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Colorado State University, Fort Collins CO
Associate of Arts, Veterinary Technology, Colorado Mountain College, Glenwood Springs
Bachelor of Arts, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Colorado Mountain College, Glenwood Springs
Dr. Fiddler completed a multi-year trip around the world and was able to volunteer his veterinary skills along the way working with the Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals in Lilongwe, Malawi and the Care for Dogs Foundation in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The trip included 1200+ miles across the entire length of Nepal on the High Route of the Great Himalaya Trail with his wife and a friend. They were the first group to ever do this without porters and guides.
Clearly an adventure enthusiast, Dr. Fiddler enjoys all types of snow skiing, to include competing in biathlons consisting of cross country skiing and target shooting. He likes high altitude mountaineering, long distance running and is a sea kayak instructor.
