Step 1: Arrival and triage.

When you arrive, our front desk team collects basic information. Then, a technician performs triage to evaluate your pet’s condition. Pets in critical condition are seen immediately. Stable patients may need to wait, depending on severity.

Step 2: Veterinary exam and diagnostics.

Once triaged, your pet will be evaluated by an emergency veterinarian. We may recommend:

  • X-rays or ultrasound
  • Bloodwork or lab panels
  • Oxygen therapy
  • Pain management
  • Hospitalization or monitoring

All treatment plans are discussed with you in advance.

Step 3: Stabilization or ongoing care.

Some pets may need IV fluids, medications, or even emergency surgery. Others might require overnight monitoring in our hospital. Our team keeps you updated throughout your pet’s stay.

Step 4: Discharge and follow-up.

When your pet is stable, we’ll go over discharge instructions, medications, and next steps. If needed, we’ll coordinate with your primary veterinarian or specialty services.

What to bring to the ER.

  • Medical records, if available
  • A list of medications your pet takes
  • Any details about what caused the emergency
  • A leash or secure carrier

Emergency vet visits at TrueCare for Pets Los Angeles — FAQ.

When you arrive at TrueCare for Pets in Los Angeles, our team will gather basic details at the front desk. Your pet will then be evaluated by a veterinary technician who performs triage. This process helps us determine the severity of your pet’s condition. Critical cases are prioritized for immediate treatment, while stable pets may need to wait briefly.

After triage, an emergency veterinarian will examine your pet and may recommend diagnostic tests. These may include x-rays, ultrasound, bloodwork, oxygen support, or pain relief. Every step of the care process is discussed with you so you understand the options and can make informed decisions.

For the smoothest experience, bring any medical records you have, a current list of medications your pet is taking, and a clear description of what happened before the emergency. Pets should arrive on a leash or in a secure carrier to keep them safe.

When your pet is ready to go home, our team will review discharge instructions with you, including how to give medications and what signs to watch for. If your pet needs further care, we will help coordinate follow-up with your regular veterinarian or a specialty service.
