Announcement comes alongside news that Dr. Jimmy Barr will join Mars Science and Diagnostics as Chief Medical Officer

Tampa, Florida, Jan. 16, 2024 – Today, BluePearl™, a leading provider of specialty and emergency veterinary care, announced that Richard Stone, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM), has been promoted to the role of Chief Medical Officer at BluePearl.

Richard Stone

Dr. Stone, who joined BluePearl in 2011 as an internal medicine specialist in Houston, has served as BluePearl’s Vice President of Medicine for the last several years, ensuring that BluePearl medical leaders across the country continue to deliver exceptional care to pets in their communities. Dr. Stone completed his veterinary training at Texas A&M University, and his internal medicine residency at the University of Georgia prior to joining BluePearl.

“During my 12 years at BluePearl, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a number of roles and it’s a great honor to continue my journey as Chief Medical Officer,” said Dr. Stone. “I am thankful for Dr. Barr’s leadership, and I am excited to build on his legacy of providing the highest quality of care to the pets and communities that we serve, while in pursuit of sustainable medical excellence.”

Dr. Stone will fill a position that was left vacant by Jimmy Barr, DVM, DACVECC, who has accepted the position of Chief Medical Officer of Mars Science & Diagnostics. Dr. Barr first joined BluePearl in 2007 after graduating from Louisiana State University, before joining Texas A&M as a faculty member, returning to BluePearl in 2017 where he was promoted to Chief Medical Officer the following year.

"I’m honored and grateful for the opportunity to help lead Medicine at Mars Science and Diagnostics. Veterinary Medicine is the best field there is and our commitment to pets has never been stronger. I’ve been lucky to experience that commitment during my time with BluePearl and have seen the unwavering dedication BluePearl Associates have to pets they care for. I wish Dr. Stone the best of luck in his new role and look forward to his continued success,” said Dr. Barr.
