Our emergency team is made up of veterinarians, vet technicians and assistants, and support staff with rigorous training and experience in specialty medicine. The team works hand in hand to provide the comprehensive, compassionate care your pet needs and deserves. Because we’re a multidisciplinary hospital, the team can consult the expertise of other specialty departments, too.
Dr. Hanna Dartman has always been interested in emergency medicine. Her clinical interests include wound management, surgery and treating endocrine conditions.
Dr. Dartman loves hiking, reading, painting and spending time with friends and family. In her free time, she enjoys relaxing at home with her cat or exploring the outdoors.
Dr. Eleanor Itzkow has a background in wildlife rehabilitation and is quite interested in avian and exotic medicine. She particularly enjoys treating gastrointestinal and dermatological conditions, as it can bring so much relief to both the owner and the pet.
Dr. Itzkow currently shares her life with a very sweet and aged Amazon Parrot, a very fluffy and ridiculous Belgian sheepdog, and one very patient fiancé.
Dr. Yunzhi Luo has enjoyed working in emergency medicine since veterinary school. She has a passion for shelter medicine and loves working with rescue pets and exotic animals.
Dr. Luo enjoys hiking, reading, traveling, musicals and plays, and relaxing movie nights with her cats, Hermes and Iris. Outside of Washington, she spends her free time exploring Vancouver Island.
Dr. Allison Reeder completed her internship in small animal medicine and surgery and is now working full time in emergency medicine. She has a special interest in wound management, pain management and neurology.
Dr. Reeder likes being on the water, especially paddle boarding and kayaking. She has a lab mix and border collie and two conure birds.
Dr. Lacey Schram’s clinical interests include feline and exotic medicine. She is RECOVER certified.
Dr. Kevin Sio has experience working with zoo animals, and he is especially interested in exotic species and wildlife medicine.
Dr. Sio enjoys hiking, cycling and playing Pokémon Go.
Dr. Shep Thorp has extensive experience treating toxicity, trauma, urethral obstruction, gastrointestinal obstruction, metabolic disease, immune-mediated disease, infection and chronic degenerative disease. He is experienced in emergency surgeries including gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), gastrointestinal foreign body removal, C-sections, splenectomy, cystotomy and tracheostomy.
Dr. Thorp’s interests include hypotensive shock, circulatory failure, respiratory failure and pain control. His goal is to improve his patients’ health and comfort throughout their hospital stay.
Dr. Thorp is an avid bird watcher and leads trips at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge for the Washington Ornithological Society. He is also a spotter for Westport Seabirds pelagic trips. In his spare time, Dr. Thorp enjoys spending time with his family and playing board games.
