Veterinary emergency care at BluePearl Monterey — FAQ.
When your pet is sick or injured, you understandably want answers quickly. At BluePearl Monterey, we are open 24/7 to provide expert and compassionate emergency care for dogs and cats. Here’s what typically happens during a visit to our veterinary ER.
Upon arrival at our ER, the process begins with triage. A trained technician will promptly assess your pet's condition to determine the urgency of care needed. Life-threatening cases are prioritized and seen immediately, while stable patients may experience a brief wait depending on the severity of their condition. You will be asked questions regarding symptoms, timing, and behavior, and paperwork and consent forms will be completed during check-in. If your pet is in critical condition, treatment will commence right away, and we will keep you informed throughout the process.
Once your pet is stable, the ER doctor will conduct a comprehensive physical examination. We may recommend additional diagnostics such as bloodwork, x-rays, or ultrasound to gain a clearer understanding of your pet's condition. In certain cases, consultations with specialists in fields like internal medicine or cardiology may be necessary. Before proceeding with any treatment, you will receive an estimate and a detailed treatment plan. We ensure that our recommendations are thoroughly explained, and we are available to answer any questions you may have before taking action.
The treatment and next steps for your pet will depend on their specific condition. We may administer IV fluids, oxygen, or pain relief to stabilize your pet. Procedures or wound care may be performed as needed, and in some cases, we may recommend overnight hospitalization or surgery. If your pet is discharged, you will receive medications and follow-up instructions to ensure continued care. You will be provided with a comprehensive summary of the visit, and we will send records to your family veterinarian for ongoing management.
At BluePearl Monterey, our team is trained to support not only our patients but also pet owners during these challenging times. We are committed to guiding, explaining, and comforting you throughout the process, ensuring that you feel supported and informed, not just treated.
