I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank the entire team at BluePearl Levittown involved in Blazer’s recent care and to recognize the exceptional coordination, compassion, and advocacy shown throughout his hospitalization.
I am especially grateful to Dr. Brodkin, Blazer’s internal medicine doctor, who has been with him from the very beginning of his care at this hospital, starting with his IMHA diagnosis and life-saving blood transfusions. Over the past two and a half years, Dr. Brodkin has consistently taken the time to understand Blazer as a complex patient and me as his caregiver, always offering thoughtful guidance, alternative ideas, and realistic plans.
Now at 16 years old, Blazer’s medical needs are increasingly complex, and Dr. Brodkin’s long-term familiarity with his history has been invaluable. From the very beginning, her steady presence, clinical judgment, and commitment to Blazer’s care have meant more to me than I can adequately express.
Dr. Brodkin was also the one who introduced me to Dr. Eagleson in neurology and Dr. Jennings in dentistry. It was clear throughout this process that these referrals were made with Blazer’s best interests in mind. Her ability to connect the right specialists and initiate collaboration across teams made an enormous difference during a very stressful time.
During one of Blazer’s visits, Dr. Brodkin took the time to discuss a persistent eye issue that had been difficult to resolve. After listening to the history and understanding the challenges I had encountered, she thoughtfully recommended seeking care with an ophthalmology specialist who was a better fit for Blazer’s needs. That recommendation ultimately led to clarity and proper treatment, and I remain deeply appreciative of her insight and advocacy.
I would also like to sincerely thank Dr. Eagleson from neurology for his expertise and involvement, and Dr. Jennings from dentistry for his outstanding communication. Dr. Jennings kept me informed every step of the way, clearly explained findings, and walked me through treatment options in a way that allowed me to make informed decisions that were both medically appropriate and financially feasible.
I am very grateful to Dr. Gomez-Ortiz from the ICU team, who cared for Blazer in the evening and throughout the following day. Dr. Gomez-Ortiz spoke with me in detail, addressed all of my concerns, and answered every question I had to ensure nothing was overlooked. Allowing me to visit Blazer in the ICU was incredibly meaningful, and her calm, thorough, and compassionate communication provided great reassurance during a very difficult period.
I would also like to acknowledge a front desk staff member who has consistently gone out of her way to check in on Blazer over the years. Even when she is not the one checking us in, she makes a point to come visit with him whenever she is able—whether we are waiting, checking out, or sitting with him before or after an appointment. She always asks how he is doing and shows genuine concern for his health. She was present during some of Blazer’s most critical visits, including when he was receiving blood transfusions and his outcome was uncertain. During those moments, when I was often alone and overwhelmed, her kindness, warmth, and willingness to engage meant more than I can adequately express.
The collaboration between internal medicine, neurology, dentistry, and the ICU team was truly exceptional. Given Blazer’s age and medical complexity, knowing that his care was being approached thoughtfully and cohesively across departments gave me tremendous confidence and comfort.
Please extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in Blazer’s care. I will always be deeply appreciative of the expertise, compassion, and dedication shown to him.
With sincere gratitude,
Janine
