In Good Hands
We are excited to welcome Dr. Kathryn Paskoff, surgical resident, to our BluePearl team in Monterey, CA. To help you get to know Dr. Paskoff a little better, we asked her a few questions about her career and interests.
What is your educational background?
I did my undergrad at Purdue University in Animal Science and then traveled to Ireland for vet school at University College Dublin. I’ve completed four internships in small animal private specialty practice.
Rotating Internship:
- VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center, Fishers, IN
Surgical Internships:
- MissionVet Specialty and Emergency, San Antonio, TX
- Pet Specialists of Monterey, Monterey, CA
- BluePearl Veterinary Partners, Tampa, FL
What part of the job are you most passionate about?
As clinicians who perform surgery, we have the opportunity to provide cures and improve quality of life for our patients by intervening in a tactile and concrete way. I’m most passionate about surgery because we can combine problem solving, creativity, art and science in a beautiful way, and I count myself lucky to participate in this incredible profession.
What was your most difficult or memorable case?
It is so tough to choose just one memorable or difficult case. But I have to say, we had an older cat here in Monterey when I was here as a surgical intern. He had septic pericarditis, and we performed a median sternotomy to remove the pericardium and septic focus from within the pericardium. He was a fighter, and he did very well after surgery.
What are your interests outside of work? Do you have pets?
Outside of work I love traveling, experiencing the outdoors, sampling gourmet foods, drinking good red wine and spending quality time with my husband and our dog, Finnegan.
What are you most excited about now that you are back in Monterey and part of the BluePearl team?
I am so excited to be back in Monterey working with the amazing team of doctors and support staff at BluePearl. We serve an amazing community of people here, and I’m lucky to call this hospital my home again!
