Our emergency team is made up of veterinarians, vet technicians and assistants, and support staff with rigorous training and experience in specialty medicine. The team works hand in hand to provide the comprehensive, compassionate care your pet needs and deserves. Because we’re a multidisciplinary hospital, the team can consult the expertise of other specialty departments, too.
Dr. Jared Brethouwer enjoys all aspects of emergency medicine and has a special interest in cardiopulmonary medicine and blood disorders.
Dr. Brethouwer is the medical director of all BluePearl Pet Hospitals in the greater Phoenix area.
An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Brethouwer likes kayaking, fishing and volleyball. Indoor pastimes include reading and cooking.
Dr. Hayli Burdsal finds pancreatitis and renal failure the most gratifying conditions to treat.
Dr. Burdsal enjoys spending time with her family and their pets: a rabbit and a dog. She also tries to make time for hiking and reading as often as possible.
Dr. Emma Fledderman is interested in all emergency cases with a special interest in metabolism and disorders.
Dr. Fledderman has a dog named Robbie who was by her side through veterinary school. She enjoys bringing Robbie on her outdoor adventures hiking, paddle boarding and snowboarding.
Dr. Carlton Huitt particularly enjoys treating trauma and wound management cases and performing emergency surgeries.
Dr. Huitt likes hiking, fitness and camping with his wife and daughter.
Dr. Andrew Kurowski enjoys the fast-paced and critical nature of emergency medicine and the challenge that comes with working up new patients every day. He has a particular interest in wound repair, advanced imaging and metabolic disorders.
When Dr. Kurowski is off the clinic floor, you can usually find him hiking, lifting, running, skiing, golfing or spending quality time with friends. He is an avid Virginia Tech Hokie and North Carolina State Wolfpack fan.
Dr. Annette Majoue is particularly interested in performing all types of emergency surgeries, especially a gastric torsion, or removing a foreign body or a hemorrhaging spleen.
Dr. Majoue is active in her church and an avid runner. Happily married, Dr. Majoue’s household includes quite the menagerie: dogs, a cat, a tortoise, chickens, a dwarf Nigerian goat, a red-eared slider, and two quarter horses, most named after Disney movie characters.
Dr. Amanda Schaff is most interested in endocrine disorders, toxins, trauma and wound repairs.
Dr. Schaff enjoys rock climbing, hiking, camping, reading a good book and spending time with her dog, Sirius, and cat, Cadel. She works with wildlife at the local wildlife rescues on her days off.
